Jeannine Suurmond is freelance peacebuilding consultant based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She has 12 years of experience in peacebuilding practice and research, specializing in mediation, Nonviolent Communication (NVC), and restorative justice. Jeannine currently combines working on her PhD thesis and NVC trainer certification with research for the Center for Sustainable Peace and Democratic Development (SeeD), an international think tank based in Cyprus.
Previously, she worked for five years as a peacebuilding advisor for the Civil Peace Service Program of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (ZFD/GIZ), supporting the ex-combatant integration, reconciliation, and community mediation programs run by the NGO Pro Public in Kathmandu, Nepal. She also worked as research analyst for Kreddha; the International Peace Council for States, Peoples, and Minorities, providing mediation support for track 1 and 2 intrastate peace processes in Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. Before that, she was consultant for the Conflict Research Unit of the Clingendael Institute and co-founded the Pax Ludens Foundation for Training and Research in Conflict Resolution in the Netherlands. Mrs. Suurmond holds an MA in Psychology from the Free University of Amsterdam and various certificates in mediation, peacebuilding, and Nonviolent Communication.
